Town of Waterford Boating Ordinances
As we prepare to get out in our boats (some of us have been out already!) it’s time to remind ourselves of the boating ordinances. Here’s a link from the WWMD learning site to the full document: http://wwmdelearning.pbworks.com/w/page/4395640/
Boating-Ordinances.

• Slow no wake from 9 P.M. to Sunrise.
• Slow no wake within 100 ft. of any dock, raft or pier.
• Keep to the right on the river [just like driving on public roads]
• Move counter-clockwise on Tichigan Lake on weekends and holidays.
• On weekends and holidays, no more than one towline, and two towed persons (skiers or other towed devices)

Phosphorus Standards

The organization Wisconsin Lakes (http://www.wisconsinlakes.org/ , WWMD is a member organization) is calling for removal of phosphorus standards rollback from the Governor’s budget bill.
According to Wisconsin Lakes: The Governor’s proposal waters down nearly all of the new regulations. It:

• Changes the specific numeric standards to vague “narrative” standards,
• Eliminates the cooperative management structure,
• Limits Wisconsin’s standards to the laxest standards adopted by neighboring states.

Wisconsin Lakes presents several other arguments, too lengthy to summarize here. One of these is that removal of the phosphorus standards after EPA approval makes federal intervention likely (because by gaining EPA approval, they have been incorporated into the federal regulations). It cracks the door for costly lawsuits and years of confusion and ambiguity on the part of businesses, landowners and citizens.

Happy fishing and safe boating!
